Decision Making Under Pressure, Uncertainty and Complexity
Dealing with uncertainty and complexity
Unravelling the system
Information dependencies exist or emerge due to the interrelated nature of all the systems currently in operation, or developed in the future and their different life-cycle phases. These dependencies create information uncertainty and subsequently obstruct decision making by North Sea energy system stakeholders, and hinder the long-term deployment of energy systems. As a solution, the level of detail of information dependencies between activities should be improved by including the information and knowledge of relevant asset owners and stakeholders. Secondly, it is essential to assess when and which specific stakeholder needs to be involved in providing information and/or in joint decision making. This can enable stakeholders to prioritize the decisions to be made, and information to be communicated, which can speed up decision making significantly and thus contribute towards accelerating the energy transition. Further details of interdependency analysis can be found in WP 1 and 7.
